AMRAVATI: A retired police inspector was booked for harassing his daughter-in-law and attempting to set her afire. After much delay the Rajapeth police registered a case against the retired PI Rambhau Dabherao and his family members.

After her husband's death Nanda got the possession of the farm and tractor which was in the name of her husband. Nanda has two daughters - one of whom is living with the former and the other at Nanda's sister-in-law's house.
According to Nanda, her father-in-law and other members were harassing her for last some years. "They wanted me to leave the house and stay elsewhere. They also took jewellery and valuables worth Rs 52,000 from my almirah," alleged Nanda, in her narration to the police commissioner.
Fed up of the continued harassment Nanda went Rajapeth police station to register a case against her in-laws but the police refused to file an FIR, Nanda further stated in her complaint. Nanda said that she went to the police station on three occasions - April 29, May 5 and May 13, 2008, but every time Rajapeth police did not register any complaint.
Nanda charged that on May 13 Rambhau, his son and daughter tried to set her on fire by dousing her with kerosene. But somehow she managed to save herself. She went to Rajapeth police station, who instead of registering a case handed it over to women's cell. Rambhau was called to women's cell for giving his version but he didn't turn up.
At last Nanda approached Bharatiya Stree Shakti's family counselling centre - Disha, which helped her in giving a narration before the police commissioner Jagan Nath.
Counsellor Meera Kadbe said, "We helped her to give the narration to the CP. After that the CP gave orders to Rajapeth police station to register a case against Rambhau Dabherao." Thereafter police registered a complaint against Rambhau and other family members.
